Why turn-based combat still rules on phones
Every time I try a fast action game on my phone, my thumbs cover half the thing I'm trying to react to. Turn-based combat sidesteps that entirely. You get time to read the board, tap deliberately, and nobody punishes you for a slightly slow finger.
Games like Emberfall Saga lean into this. You can plan a whole turn, see the enemy's intent, and commit when you're ready. On a bus with one hand free, that's the difference between playing and fumbling.
The trick good designers use is making decisions interesting without making inputs fast. Positioning, cooldowns and resource management all fill that space. When it works, a phone RPG fight feels closer to a puzzle than a reflex test.
If you've bounced off mobile RPGs because action combat felt mushy, give a turn-based one a proper try. It's the genre that fits the hardware best, and I keep coming back to it.
